For the second year in a row, The Class 3A Semi-States at Richmond featured a battle of #1 and #2.  Last year, #2 Greensburg beat the #1 Mount Vernon Marauders 62-37  for the right to play for the state crown.

The Pirates had a much tougher go at at this time around.  Greensburg did have an early 5-4 lead, but Guerin Catholic took the lead that lasted until the 4th Quarter.  The Golden Eagles led 20-10 at the end of the 1st Quarter.  GC led by a many as 15 points in Quarter 2, but The Pirates got some momentum near halftime and outscored GC 14-9 to cut the lead down to five at 29-24.

Both teams got their offenses going in Quarter 3.  GC increased their lead up to 10, but Greensburg cut it down to three.  The Golden Eagles outscored The Pirates 28-26 in the quarter and led 57-50 at the end of 3.  The 4th Quarter was all Pirates.  Both teams scored early baskets, but Greensburg dominated the final session by outscoring The Golden Eagles 24-10 to earn their way to The State Finals to defend their 3A State Title.

The Pirates were led in scoring by Sean Sellers with 20 points.  11 of them in the 4th Quarter with 8 for 8 at the free throw line.  Sellers also grabbed 10 rebounds.  Greensburg also had three other players scoring in double digits.  Ryan Welage with 17, Macy Holdsworth had 16 including four 3-pointers, and Bryant McIntosh contributed with 15 points and 9 assists.

The Golden Eagles were led in scoring by Matt Holbaa with 23 points, Christian Munson chipped in with 18 including six 3-pointers, and Aaron Brennon with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Greensburg will be looking to repeat as State Champions.  The Pirates will square off against The 3A #3 and last year’s 2A State Champion Bowman Academy Eagles for The 3A Championship.  Bowman Academy also won the 1A Crown back in ’10 becoming the only team in Indiana Boys Basketball history to win a state championship in two different classes.

The Clash of the Champions between The Pirates and The Eagles will be on Saturday (3-29) at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis tipping off around 6 PM.  WRBI’s coverage begins with The Countdown To Tipoff starting after the 5 PM News.

Congratulations to The Greensburg Pirates and Coach Stacy Meyer and winning The Semi-States and the best of luck in The State Finals from The Sports Voice-Country 103.9 WRBI!
