Patricia Blossom Smith, age 82, longtime resident of Brookville, Indiana and Hilton Head, South Carolina died Tuesday, June 24, 2014. At the time of her death she was convalescing close to family in Orlando, Florida.
Born May 17, 1932, in Richmond, Indiana she was the daughter of the late Dr. Paul & Harriet (Farquhar) Blossom. She was a graduate of Richmond High School, and attended Indiana University where she earned her degree in music. On June 16, 1956 she was united in marriage to Roger H. Smith, and he survives.
Mrs. Smith actively applied her passion for music with the Richmond Civic Orchestra as a flutist. She also played with the Richmond Symphony and sang with the Richmond Community Chorus. She was politically active with the Republican Party, and could be depended on for helping out during elections.
She was very active in Brookville civic organizations such as the Historical Society, The Cemetery Commission and Daughters of the American Revolution. She had a strong interest in genealogy throughout her life, and her children recall picnics in cemeteries as mom gathered information for family trees from grave markers.
Raising a family of four she was the “fix it” person at home. If there was a leaky faucet or roof, she repaired it; no costly repairman was needed.
Survivors include Roger, her husband of over 58 years, four children, Britt H. Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio, Anne Archuleta of Centennial, Colorado, Craig F. Smith of Ashford, Connecticut and June Ritter of Orlando, Florida; five grandchildren, Andrea and Eric Smith, Matthew, Andrew and Nicholas Ritter; two brothers, John Blossom of Mt. Pleasant, North Carolina and Robert Blossom of Lady Lake, Florida.
