Former coroner Ron Buchanan resigned on Aug 31 which led to the Republican Party holding a caucus with the precinct central committee to vote in a new coroner.
There were two candidates, Lauren Thielking and Randy Hornsby.
The Osgood Journal reported that the majority of the vote went to 23-year-old Lauren Thielking.
The Batesville native served under Buchanan for a year and is the daughter of Batesville Asst. Police Chief Jeff Thielking.
She has gone through the 40-hour training required for certification. According to the Osgood Journal, Thielking will continue to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice while handling coroner duties, which is a part-time position.
