Open Class Exhibit Categories At Ripley Co. Fair

Ripley County Extension Homemakers are sponsoring open class exhibits at the Ripley County Fair beginning July 20. Community members are invited to submit an entry.

There are several new categories in each division including those from years past.

“If you made something this year there is most likely to be a category for you to exhibit the item.  You may enter more than one item in each division but only one item in each category of that division,” said Theresa Holbert, president of the extension homemakers.

Holbert released the categories of the exhibits:

  • Prepared Foods: Cookies (3 on plate), Cakes, Quick breads, Yeast breads, Pies (no cream pies) fruit and Pumpkin, Decorated Cakes, Miscellaneous entry (one recipe only) and professional Entries will be accepted in this division and judged in its own category.
  • Food preservation:  (Canning Only) must be in standard jars with rings and dated: Fruits – one pint or one quart;   Vegetables –  one pint or one quart, Jams and Jellies – one jar;  Pickles and relishes – one jar, and Miscellaneous.
  • Fresh produce:  Vegetables – must be 3 item on plate/one for larger items,  Fruit- filled half pint container.
  • Crafts:  Wooden articles, Baskets, and professional entries.
  • Floral:  Dried or fresh flowers and Single blooms;     Foliage arrangement, Potted plants, and Professional entries.
  • Quilts: Bed size quilted by hand – Bed size quilted by hand.  And Professional.
  • Quilts:  Machine Quilted – Bed size and professional entry.
  • Quilted items (not quilts):  By hand or machine quilted:  Wall hangings, Throws;         Miscellaneous and Professional entry.
  • Fine art:  Oil Painting; Water Color; Charcoals; Acrylics; Miscellaneous and professional entry.
  • Photography:  (picture should be no larger than 8 ½ “ by 11”  and ready to hang – frames can be larger.) Portrait; Landscape; Still life; Kids;    Animals; Creative  and     Collage and Professional entries .
  • Crocheting: Doilies; Garments; Afghans; Accessories and Miscellaneous.
  • Knitting:  Garments;      Afghans;         Accessories and Miscellaneous.
  • Miscellaneous needle print:  Needlepoint;      Machine Embroidery;      Hand embroidery; Crewel; Counted cross stitch;Miscellaneous, and Professional entries.
  • Sewing apparel:  Accessories; Home Décor and Professional entries.
  • Handmade purses: Purses;     Travel Bags;      Totes;      Professional Entry.
  • Wearable arts: Jewelry; Beading(on an article); Clothing(painted or embellished),  and Other, and Professional Entry.
  • Go-green recycling:  Something made by recycling.
  • Holiday:  Something for any Holiday – Decorations; Clothing; Accessories, other.
  • “Ugly”: Decorations; Clothing; Accessories, Other.

Some of the divisions have categories for professionals this year.  Those entries will be judged separately. It will be considered professional if you get paid to make the item even though you may not make a living doing it.
