Officer-Involved Shooting Leads to Death of Brookville Man

BROOKVILLE, Ind. — An officer involved shooting lead to the death of a Brookville man on Wednesday. The incident took place at 11191 State Road 101 near Brookville. Indiana State Police say they were asked to investigate the officer involved shooting just after 6:00 AM.

According to police, a woman showed up at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department shortly after 5:00 AM to report a family member who lives at the residence was acting erratically and causing a disturbance at the home. A Franklin County Deputy along with two Brookville Police officers arrived on scene and made contact with Donald D. Parker, Jr, 29, who was holding at least one firearm while on the porch of the residence.

Police say Parker pointed the firearm in the direction of the officers, causing the two Brookville officers to fire their weapons at Parker. Parker was struck at least once. The officers immediately administered first aid and requested EMS. Parker was transported to Reid Hospital in Richmond where he soon died from his injuries.

One of the Brookville officers is a 17 year veteran of the Brookville Police Department, while the other has severed for 2.5 years. The officer’s names are being withheld at this time. Per department protocol, the two officers have been placed on administrative leave. Once the investigation is complete, the state police will turn it over to the Franklin County Prosecutors Office for review.
