OLDENBURG, Ind. – A 2013 Oldenburg Academy graduate is the recipient of a scholarship that celebrates successful first-generation college students.

Natalie Pottschmidt, 19, is the University of Notre Dame’s 2014 “Realizing the Dream” scholarship. The Lawrenceburg native is a neuroscience and behavior major at Notre Dame.

The award recognizes students for outstanding achievement their freshman year in college and are now in their sophomore year.

Pottschmidt receives a $2,000 scholarship and is asked to name a secondary education teacher that most influenced her decision to attend college. The nominated teacher receives a $1,000 Professional Development Grant.

A banquet will be held this fall in Indianapolis to honor the student and teacher.

The scholarship program has been funded by the Lilly Endowment since 1989.
