Ground is breaking on a new trail for Greensburg residents.

The 1.7 mile trail will connect Rebekah Park to the Decatur County Schools Administrative Building, going through the industrial park that features companies such as GECOM and Valeo.

The majority of the funding for the project is through a grant from the Indiana Department of Transportation. The city is paying for approximately ten percent of the work.

Dave Fry, vice president of operations for Decatur County Memorial Hospital said in a Facebook post, “It was great to see the progress this morning that was literally years in the making. It’s a dream that started with mention in plan after plan, which included Envision Decatur County in 2004. Thanks to Bryan Robbins for his persistence in making the grant a reality!”

Fry added that the pedestrian trail will help promote health and wellness in the community.

Construction is expected to be complete in September.
