Mrs. Dorothy Mae (Gray) Browning, age 97, of Vevay, Indiana entered this life on December 26, 1918, in Carroll County, Kentucky, the loving daughter of the late, James Arthur and Ada Marie (Taylor) Gray. She was raised in Vevay, Indiana where she attended school. Dorothy was united in marriage on March 7, 1936, in Madison, Indiana, to the late, Lee Browning and to this union arrived seven children to bless their home. Dorothy and Lee shared nearly 43 years of marriage together until Lee passed away on December 15, 1979. Dorothy owned and operated with her husband a farm on Pendleton Run Road in Vevay, Indiana. At the age of 75, Dorothy could still strip 600 tobacco sticks a day. She was a member of the Bennington United Methodist Church in Bennington, Indiana. Dorothy enjoyed quilting, working outside and setting and raising tobacco and was a hard worker. Dorothy will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends. Dorothy passed away at 7:46 pm, Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at the Manderly Health Care in Osgood, Indiana.
Dorothy will be dearly missed by her son: James Browning of Bennington, IN; her daughters: Helen Hounshell of Vevay, IN, Mary Browning of Holton, IN and Janet Scott and her husband: Gary of Vevay, IN; her 18-grandchildren, 54-great-grandchildren, 19-great-great-grandchildren and a great-great-great-granddaughter; her sister: Betty Spears of Aurora, IN and her several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: James Arthur Gray, died June 22, 1960 and Ada Marie (Taylor) Gray, died October 17, 1991 her husband of nearly 43 years: Lee Browning, died December 15, 1979; her son: Donald Lee Browning; her twin children: Carrol and Carolyn Browning; her granddaughter: Teresa Lynn Browning; her great-grandchildren: Isaac Bowman and Tyler James Smith; her brothers: Delvin, Mart, Luther, Chester and James Gray and her sisters: Kathryn Carlton, Mildred Jester, Aline Buck and Naomi McFarland.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 12, 2016, at 2:00 pm, by Rev. Mike Jones at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
