Nelson Turner

Mr. Nelson  Turner, age 73, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on January 1, 1941, in Gallatin County, Kentucky, son of the late, Paul J. and Elsie Mae (Phillips) Turner. He moved to Vevay at the age of four and was raised at his family’s farm. He was a 1959 graduate of Vevay High School. Nelson was united in marriage on January 27, 1962, in Madison, Indiana, to Sue Sides and they were blessed with one daughter, Anita Turner McCullum. Nelson was employed for 40 years at Cummins as a HVAC Journeyman and five years was spent at the Holset Plant in Madison, Indiana. He was employed for the Charlestown Ammunition Plant in Charlestown, Indiana. He was a member of the Butlerville Masonic Lodge No. 135 F&AM. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 122 F&AM, for many years. He was also an active member of his community and assisted at the Swiss Wine Festival, volunteered at his local YMCA and worked on the Democratic Election Board. He will be remembered for his love of gardening, raising roses, woodworking & his generosity among his neighbors. His greatest pride and source of joy were his twin grandsons, Jacob and Lucas. Nelson was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother & dear friend to many. Nelson will truly be missed in his community.   Nelson died at 12:04 am, Monday, March 10, 2014, at his residence in Vevay, Indiana.

Nelson will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 52 years: Sue (Sides) Turner of Vevay, IN; his daughter: Anita Turner McCullum & her husband: Jerry of ST. Leonard, MD; his twin grandsons: Jacob & Lucas McCullum; his sister: Pauline O’Day & her husband: Jerry of Spring Hill, FL; his 6-sister-in-laws: Eleanor Ford of Lebanon, OH, Jane Stewart & her husband: Chuck of Commiskey, IN, Faye Synder & her husband: Ron of Vevay, IN, Mary Sides of Vevay, IN, Ruth Taylor & her husband: Melwood of Lexington, IN, Wilma Turner of Vevay, IN; his 2- brother-in-laws: Fred Sides & his wife: Elsa of Huntsville, AL, John Sides & his wife: Judy of Versailles, IN; his several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Paul J. & Elsie Mae (Phillips) Turner; his brother: Alton Eugene Turner, Sr.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 14, 2014, at 11:00 am, by Rev. Mike Jones, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.  Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.

Friends may call 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Thursday, March 13, 2014, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Memorial contributions may be made to Switzerland County Masonic Lodge No. 122 F&AM Building Fund. Cards are available at the funeral home.
