Mr. Marvin Kent Powers, age 70, of Patriot, Indiana, entered this life on July 27, 1945, in Biloxi, Mississippi, the son of the late, James Selby and Olevia Marjorie “Libby” (Hardin) Powers. He was raised in Shelbyville, Indiana where he was a 1964 graduate of the Shelbyville High School. Marvin attended the Indianapolis Mortuary College in Indianapolis, Indiana. Marvin was inducted into the United States Army on September 14, 1964, in Indianapolis, Indiana, serving during Vietnam War. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Marvin was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 5th Class on August 31, 1967, at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Marvin was united in marriage on December 21, 1974, at the Concord Community Church in Patriot, Indiana, to Deborah Elaine Rush and to this union arrived a son, Mike and a daughter, Carrie Ann to bless their home. Marvin and Debbie shared nearly 42 loving years of marriage together until his death. He was employed for Laughery Gravel. Marvin was a former production worker for Campbell Hausfeld in Harrison, Ohio, for 10 years, GE in Evendale, Ohio for 4 years, KECO in Florence, Kentucky for 6 years, for GAP Inc for 6 years and for Adidas for 2 years both in Hebron, Kentucky. Marvin was employed for Grand Victoria Casino in Rising Sun, Indiana, for 3 years. He was currently employed for Wal-Mart in Aurora, Indiana until his death. Marvin resided in the Switzerland County community since 1973 and the past 39 years at their home in the Patriot community. Marvin was a member of the Rising Sun American Legion Post #59. He attended the Concord Community Church in Patriot, Indiana. Marvin enjoyed building furniture, woodworking, fishing, working in the flower beds, coloring, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren. Marvin will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. Marvin passed away at 9:30 am, Thursday, April 14, 2016, at his residence in Patriot, Indiana.

Powers of Franklin, IN; his nephews: Rick & Ron Powers both of Franklin, IN & his niece: Becky Powers of Indianapolis, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents: James Selby & Olevia Marjorie “Libby” (Hardin) Powers & his niece: Roxanna Powers.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 18, 2016, at 11:00 am, by Bro. Steve Ward at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Full military rites and Interment will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Rising Sun American Legion Post #59 in the Concord Cemetery, Patriot, Indiana.
