Mr. Dustan Michael “Dusty” Rine

obit-candleMr. Dustan Michael “Dusty” Rine, age 69, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on July 3, 1947, in Milan, Indiana, the son of, Gareth Sheldon Tullis and Patsy (O’Connor) Tullis-Rine. He was raised in North Vernon, Indiana where he was a 1965 graduate of the North Vernon High School. Dusty was inducted into the United States Army on November 3, 1966, in Indianapolis, Indiana, serving during the Vietnam War. Dusty earned the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 4th Class on November 1, 1968 at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. Dusty was united in marriage on October 24, 1970, in North Vernon, Indiana, to Ida Suzanne Miller. Dusty and Suzanne shared 46 years of marriage together until his death. Dusty was a former Senior Marine Product Engineer for Cummins Inc. in Charlestown, South Carolina, retiring in 1996, after 30 years of service. He resided in the Madison, Indiana community for 9 years, Asheville, North Carolina community, Edisto Island, South Carolina community where he was a park ranger and in the Vevay, Indiana community the past few months. Dusty was a fiddle wizard and enjoyed fixing any string instrument, playing his fiddle, guitar, mandalon, drums and dulcimer. He was known as a “renaissance man” for having so many talents and areas of knowledge not many would know. He was a Scout Master and also enjoyed sailing, cooking, mowing the yard, woodworking, building tiny houses and was an avid reader. Dusty will be dearly missed by his loving family and abundance of friends. Dusty passed away at 3:55 pm, Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at his residence in Vevay, Indiana.

Dusty will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 46 years: Ida Suzanne (Miller) Rine of Vevay, Indiana; his sister: Ronda Everroad of St. Paul, IN and his numerous close friends that he thought of as his own family.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Gareth Sheldon Tullis and Patsy (O’Connor) Tullis-Rine; his maternal-grandparents: Daniel Major O’Connor and Elizabeth (Seward) O’Connor-Roseberry; his paternal-grandparents: Marvin Tullis and Myrtie (Hawk) Tullis and his uncle: Pat O’Connor, who was tragically killed in 1958 while racing in the Indy 500.

A private celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family.
