More Details Emerge In Shooting That Claimed Teen

The Greensburg Police Department has released more information regarding the shooting that claimed 13-year-old Craig Roberts on Tuesday.

Police said the investigation has shown that Roberts was accidently shot by a sibling after the firearm was left out in preparation to be cleaned.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday at 10:00 a.m.

Greensburg Police Chief Stacey Chasteen said, “This serves as a reminder that all firearms should be treated as if they are loaded and that firearms should be stored and locked away from children who might be curious about a firearm.”

Roberts was an eighth grader at Greensburg Junior High School. The shooting on Tuesday was the second that involved an eighth grade student at the school in the past two weeks.

Assisting in the investigation was the Decatur County Coroner’s Office, the Indiana State Police, the Decatur County Prosecutors Office, the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, Decatur County EMS, the Decatur County Dept. of Child Services and the Greensburg Fire Department.

The first session is scheduled for Thursday, June 26 and will feature a discussion around the emotional rollercoaster of cancer and the fear of recurrence.
