Midwest Meet of Champions

I think I wrote about going to the MMC in Ft. Wayne a few weeks back. This is an amazing track meet and only one of two such meets left in the United States. The other I believe is the Keebler Championship Meet. All the others have succumbed to financial woes. The Neeley Twins from Greentown High School were amazing. They won every event they were in unless they ran against each other. Brittany came from behind in three events on the final lap to win her races for Team Indiana. Just for the heck of it, she broke the long-standing 1600 meter race with an unbelievable time in the 4:40’s. Many schools did not have boys who ran this fast this year. Coaches say while they were in high school she and Bethany ran just about every event in track and won them. Not only do they look alike, but they run alike and have the same guttiness it takes to be a champion. Between them, they either won or teamed up to win the 800m, 1600m, 1600m relay, and 3200m relay races. I heard one coach say that Brittany could have won the 300m hurdles as well. I can see her as a steeplechase runner in world competition in a few years. The other phenomenal race was the men’s 3200m event in which Team Indiana went 1, 2, 3, and did it in convincing fashion. Too bad the rest of the Indiana squad was not as good, because Indiana placed second to Ohio in both competitions. Michigan was third in each one. It is a great meet between the seniors of Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio; and if you ever know someone running in it, please go to see it!
