Maymie V. Kelly, age 98, of Seminole, Florida, and a former longtime resident of Brookville, Indiana, died Thursday, June 19, 2014 in Florida where she had been living with her daughter, Judyth.
Born November 20, 1915 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana she was the daughter of the late Frank & Laura (Meyer) Ruf. On September 16, 1937 she became the wife of Orbin Kelly, and he preceded her in death on March 3, 1989.
She was a member of the Brookville United Methodist Church, and had volunteered with many local organizations. She cherished her many friends over the years and was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. In her leisure time she enjoyed gardening, sewing, and crafts of various kinds; many will remember her for the craft shop she operated in Metamora, Indiana for several years.
Survivors include three daughters, Janet (Ronald) Hofer of Altamonte Springs, Florida; Judyth (Ken) Kaplan of Seminole, Florida and Bonnie (Don) Rice of McCormick, South Carolina; one brother, Jewel Ruf of Connersville, Indiana; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family & friends may visit from 5 till 8:00 P.M. on Monday, June 23, 2014, at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.
Rev. Michael Pentecost, her grandson, and Rev. Curtis Bond of the Brookville United Methodist Church will officiate the Funeral Services on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, 10:30 A.M., at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville, Indiana.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Maymie & Orbin Kelly Scholarship Fund through the Franklin County Community Foundation or the Brookville United Methodist Church. St. Louis Catholic Church is having their Mock Turtle Soup Sale! Monday, September 15- noon-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 16- 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 17-Friday, September 19- 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Sunday, September 21- during the annual St. Louis Church Festival, theMock Turtle Soup will be available for sale until it’s gone. Please enter through the Activity Center doors only! The soup will also be available through the week at Schmidt’s Bakery during their normal business hours. If you have any empty quart, half-gallon, or gallon jars you can spare (or canning lids and/or rings), you can bring them to the SLS Activity Center or Schmidt’s Bakery, as jars and lids are still needed to bottle the soup throughout the week.

Batesville Kroger’s has partnered with Hoxworth Blood Center, University of  Cincinnati to host a Community Blood Drive on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 12:00pm to 6:00pm.  The Hoxworth Donor Bus will be parked on Kroger’s lot, located at 1034 State Rd. 229, in Batesville, IN. To schedule your appointment, please visit www.hoxworth.org/groups/batesville or call Kroger’s Customer Service at (812) 933-6201.  Hoxworth recognizes that blood donors’ time is valuable.  Priority will be given to donors who have scheduled an appointment.  Walk-in donors are welcome and will be seen as soon as possible. “Local blood donors ensure that local patients at 30 area hospitals receive the lifesaving blood products they need to survive,” said Alecia Lipton, Hoxworth spokesperson.  “Community blood drives are vitally important and we hope to see a good turnout at the Batesville Kroger’s blood drive.” How to Donate: Donating blood is safe and easy.  Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with a signed parental consent) and in good health.  Individuals must weigh at least 110 pounds and bring identification to donate.  It is recommended that donors eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within four hours before donating.
