Maymie V. Kelly, age 98, of Seminole, Florida, and a former longtime resident of Brookville, Indiana, died Thursday, June 19, 2014 in Florida where she had been living with her daughter, Judyth.
Born November 20, 1915 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana she was the daughter of the late Frank & Laura (Meyer) Ruf. On September 16, 1937 she became the wife of Orbin Kelly, and he preceded her in death on March 3, 1989.
She was a member of the Brookville United Methodist Church, and had volunteered with many local organizations. She cherished her many friends over the years and was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. In her leisure time she enjoyed gardening, sewing, and crafts of various kinds; many will remember her for the craft shop she operated in Metamora, Indiana for several years.
Survivors include three daughters, Janet (Ronald) Hofer of Altamonte Springs, Florida; Judyth (Ken) Kaplan of Seminole, Florida and Bonnie (Don) Rice of McCormick, South Carolina; one brother, Jewel Ruf of Connersville, Indiana; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family & friends may visit from 5 till 8:00 P.M. on Monday, June 23, 2014, at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.
Rev. Michael Pentecost, her grandson, and Rev. Curtis Bond of the Brookville United Methodist Church will officiate the Funeral Services on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, 10:30 A.M., at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville, Indiana.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Maymie & Orbin Kelly Scholarship Fund through the Franklin County Community Foundation or the Brookville United Methodist Church. The parishes of St. John in Osgood, Immaculate Conception in Millhousen and St. Maurice in Napoleon will co-host a three day mission led by Fr. Jim Farrell.  The theme of the mission will be “Mercy: God’s Gift.”  Fr. Farrell is currently pastor of Pius X Parish in Indianapolis and is also Director of Our Lady of Fatima Retreat House in Indianapolis. The retreat schedule and topics will be Sunday Feb. 14 at St. John’s – “Encountering God’s Mercy in the Scriptures;” Monday Feb. 15 will be at Immaculate Conception – “Experiencing God’s Mercy in the Sacraments;” and Tuesday Feb. 16 at St. Maurice – “Carrying God’s Mercy Forward- Giving What We Have Received.” All talks will begin at 7:00 PM and will be followed by opportunities for Confession and Anointing of the Sick.  Refreshments and opportunities for fellowship will also be available in the parish halls.  Please come, bring a friend and join us for this perfect beginning to Lent.
