Mabel M. Finch, age 97

Mabel M. Finch, age 97, of Blooming Grove, Indiana died Sunday, October 13, 2013 at her residence.

 

Born June 11, 1916 at the Wolber Homestead near Blooming Grove in FranklinCounty, she was the daughter of the late Clarence J. & Anna C. (Dietzel) Wolber.  She was a graduate of Brookville High School Class of 1934.

 

She was Baptized and Confirmed in the Lutheran Faith, and was a Lifelong member of St. ThomasLutheranChurch in Brookville.

 

On March 20, 1937 she was united in marriage to Forrest G. Finch, and he preceded her in death on May 25, 1967.

 

Mabel served as Deputy Treasurer of FranklinCounty for 1 year, and was employed at Peoples Trust Company Bank for over 23 years until her retirement in 1981.  In her leisure time she enjoyed mowing grass, croqueting, and reading.

 

Survivors include a son & daughter-in-law, Dr. Calvin E. & Barbara Finch of Blooming Grove, Indiana; one grandson; three step-grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren.

 

Besides her parents and husband, Forrest, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty M. Finch who died at age 10, and two sisters, Alma Bauer and Edna Fritz.

 

Family & friends may visit from 4 until 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.

 

Rev. Donn Abdon will officiate the Funeral Services on Thursday, October 17, 2013, 10:30 A.M., at St. ThomasLutheranChurch, 823 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.  Burial will follow in Maple GroveCemetery in Brookville.

Volunteers are need for all-day or half-day butterfly counts at the Big Oaks National Wildlife Reserve. Bring water, bug spray, sunscreen, snacks or lunch and binoculars and meet at the refuge office on Saturday morning August 1 between 7:45 am – 8 am. A $3.00 donation to the North American Butterfly Association for those participating in the count would be appreciated. Survey teams will be divided up based on the length of time you wish to spend in the field. Contact Joe Robb at joe_robb@fws.gov to register.
