Louis E. Linkel, age 88

Louis E. Linkel age 88, of Batesville, Indiana died suddenly Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

Born January 7, 1928 in Whitewater Township, Franklin County, Indiana he was the son of the late Edward A. & Clara (Minister) Linkel. On May 15, 1948 he and the former Evelyn L. Brack were united in marriage and she preceded him in death on March 12, 2005.

Lou was retired, having farmed and worked at the former Fry Roofing in Brookville; the Indiana Department of Transportation; and was a former Franklin County Commissioner. He was a member of the Metamora Masonic Lodge; the Franklin County Republican Party and the National Rifle Association. In his younger days he enjoyed hunting and fishing and the outdoors, and in later years being with family brought a great deal of contentment to him.

Survivors include two sons and three daughters-in-law, Bill & Jean Linkel, Tom & Dee Linkel, and Juanita Linkel all of Batesville, Indiana; nine grandchildren, as well as 17 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, and wife, Evelyn, he was preceded in death by a son, John E. Linkel, who died May 2, 2016, and a sister, Carol Hall.

Family & friends may visit from 4 until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville; where Masonic Memorial Services will be held at 7:00 P.M..

John Cleghorn will officiate the Funeral Services at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, July 29, 2016 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, with burial following in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville.
