Leo F. “BZ” Wettering, age 90 of Batesville, died Friday, June 6, 2014 at his home. Born June 7, 1923 in Napoleon, Indiana, he is the son of Stella (Nee: Youngman) and Joseph Wettering. He served in the Army during World War II and after the service, he would become a welder at the Hill-Rom Company, retiring in 1987 after 41 years. He married Helen Schutte in 1952 and she died in 1954. On November 16, 1957 he married Helen Prickel at St. Anthony’s Church in Morris. She preceded him in death last month on May 25th. BZ was a member of St. Louis Church, the Batesville V.F.W. and former member of the Prell-Bland American Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles Batesville Aerie #1130.

BZ didn’t necessarily watch a lot of television, but when he did, it was usually sports related. And while he liked all sports, he particularly followed the Reds and pretty much put everything on hold for Notre Dame football. He was a talented woodworker and made many pieces over the years. BZ also enjoyed spending time with the members at the V.F.W. and attending club functions.

He is survived by his sister Marcella (Sally) Miller of North Redington Beach, Florida along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to both wives, he is also preceded in death by sisters Rosemary Fullenkamp, Marie Bland and brothers Harry, Carl and Robert Wettering. Visitation is Tuesday, June 10th, from 9 – 10:30 a.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services follow at 11 a.m. at St. Louis Church with Rev. Randy Summers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3181 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

There will be approximately 50 antique cars lining the parking lot. This is the 2nd year Darrel and Ramona Wilkinson from Rushville have brought one of their car clubs to McPhersons for a tour of the printing facility. Stop in and take a look at some of the vehicles from the past. Thanks. SACC
