Legislation To Aim At Banning Phone Surveillance

Three state senators are trying to ban cell phone snooping.

The outline submitted yesterday would require a warrant to track the movements of cell phone users.

The legislation follows an investigation by The Indianapolis Star that revealed the purchased of a “Stringray” device by the Indiana State Police.

The device is for electronic surveillance and used to capture data from mobile telephones.

State Police did not indicate how they would use the device but did say the technology is a useful weapon for fighting crime and terrorism.
