Lawrence E. Schroeder, 94, Greensburg, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Greensburg.

Born, August 21, 1919 in Decatur County, Indiana, he was the son of Edward H. and Josephine (Walters) Schroeder.

Lawrence retired from the Ripley County Beverage Company in 1981.  He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he had served as an usher for over 50 years.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years.  He drove a paper route for the Greensburg Daily for 55 years.

He was married to Mildred C. (Butz) Offutt on September 6, 1944 and she preceded him in death on July 15, 1994.  In 1997 he married Ruth M. Adams and she survives.

He is also survived by one son, Ronald J. (Jenell) Schroeder; daughter-in-law, Ruth Offutt; three step sons, Bob (Jane) Adams, Jim Adams, Tom Adams; three grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren, many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife, Mildred; one step son, Kenneth Offutt.

Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.   A public rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg with Rev. John Meyer officiating.

Interment will be held in the St. Mary’s CatholicCemetery in Greensburg, Indiana.

Memorials may be made to the Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

St. Louis Catholic Church is having their Mock Turtle Soup Sale! Monday, September 15- noon-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 16- 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 17-Friday, September 19- 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Sunday, September 21- during the annual St. Louis Church Festival, theMock Turtle Soup will be available for sale until it’s gone. Please enter through the Activity Center doors only! The soup will also be available through the week at Schmidt’s Bakery during their normal business hours. If you have any empty quart, half-gallon, or gallon jars you can spare (or canning lids and/or rings), you can bring them to the SLS Activity Center or Schmidt’s Bakery, as jars and lids are still needed to bottle the soup throughout the week.

The Annual 21st Crackaway Daze Festival will be held on September 20 – 21 at the Saltcreek Township Park in New Point, Indiana (located 8 miles east of Greensburg or 6 miles west of Batesville on Hwy 46 or south 850 just off of I-74 Exit 143. Park is on left along Hwy 46). Parade at 11:00 am on Saturday. Flea market in the park (contact Rosa at 812-593-7611 or email at rosa@etczone.com). Great food for both days (roast plus more on Saturday). Our famous fried chicken with all the trimmings on Sunday, served by the New Point Kiwanis Club. Homemade ice cream by Smyrna Church. Fun for the kids and adults (bed race, antique cars and trucks and farm equipment, kettle bean soup). Entertainment, drawings (50/50 pot), hot dog stand, snow cones and much more!
