Lady Trojans Results At Brownstown Central Invitational

VolleyballEC Volleyball traveled to Brownstown Central yesterday for their varsity invitational.

We went 0-4 on the day, but what the score books do not show, is how hard we played all day.

It was the longest day of volleyball I’ve ever been part of. We left at 6:15am and didn’t get back to EC until 9:15pm. Almost all of the matches in our pool went three long sets, so the schedule was several hours behind early in the day.

EC lost to Brownstown Central (25-27, 25-10, 25-20), Columbus East (25-15, 26-28, 26-24), Covenant Christian (25-21, 25-21) and Bloomington South (25-14, 25-20).

It was a slow start with Brownstown to open the day. We came back late in set one to get the win, but completely folded in the second set. We got down early in set three, but battled back until it came to closing out the match.

‘We were up and down all day. We either played really well, or we struggled a lot. There wasn’t a lot of happy medium. The highlight of our day was our match against Columbus East. We started off very slow, but toward the end of set one, we started to realize that we could compete with them. That carried over into set two. Both teams battled hard for every point, but we managed to finish in set two to force a set three. That’s when we finally believed that we could not only compete with teams in our sectional, but also win. It was the most exciting volleyball match I’ve ever coached. It was heartbreaking for the girls to not walk out with that win, but no one hung their head. For the first time in years, a team at EC honestly believes we can compete at that higher level. I couldn’t be happier for them.’  Trojans Coach Cassie Laker.

The last two matches of the games were just like the first two. Very up and down. We had a few more low points in these two, which is why they only went two. But I don’t want to take anything from our girls. They played hard every time they stepped out on the court. I think we learned a lot this weekend- some very important things that will carry us through the rest of the season as we continue to get better.

‘This is a great tournament for us. It tells us early on what we need to do to compete with teams we will see in the post-season. It gives us a couple of months to get those things in check and go back out and try again!’  Trojans Coach Cassie Laker.

Next up for JV and varsity is a home match against OA Tuesday at 5pm. Varsity is now 5-5 on the season.
