Lady Pirates Battle Lady Raiders In Soccer

SoccerThe Lady Pirates soccer team hosted South Ripley Tuesday evening and came away with a 3-1 victory. The win pushes the overall record to 3-2-1 for the season.

Emma Hellmich started the scoring with her first varsity goal 90 seconds into the match. Hellmich pocketed the ball in the upper 90 off an assist from Michaela Myers. The Lady Pirates gave up a goal with 9 minutes to play in the half for a 1-1 halftime score.

Emma Hellmich notched her second score 6 minutes into the second half for the go-ahead goal. Older sister Maddi Hellmich rounded out the scoring with 14 minutes to play for the 3-1 win.

Overall the Lady Pirates outshot the Lady Raiders 28-9. Taking shots for the Lady Pirates were: Emma Hellmich, Maddi Hellmich, Myers, Emma Overmyer, Julia Pacilio, Abby Easley, Joana Lopez and Emma Porter. Many team members stepped up and played strong throughout the match and McKella Lynetter had another good night in goal with 8 saves.

The JV Lady Pirates notched a 0-0 tie with Lady Raiders. Keeper Emily Lowe made 4 saves and Abby Easley and Hannah Redmon each recorded shots on goal. The JV squad played and back and forth match for 35 minutes. The tie brings the JV record to 0-2-1.

Both teams will be in action Thursday as they travel to Madison with a 5:30 PM varsity start.
