V Score – Batesville 5 – Seymour 1
The Lady Bulldogs Varsity team defeated the Seymour Owls by a score of 5-1. The Bulldogs played hard from the start of the whistle and the score reflected their work ethic. “Tonight, we made a huge step in the right direction as to where we need to be at the end of the season. The girls were communicating, stepping hard to the ball, and finishing when given the chance.” Morgan Puente started off the scoring the first 2 goals for Batesville. Sylvia Phillips and Megan Doll assisted Puente on the goals. Shelby Rupp put the Lady Bulldogs up 3-0 with 7:00 to go in the first half. Kira Hertel hit a beautiful corner and Rupp met up with the ball midflight to put it into the back of the net.

The defense held strong the entire first half and never let Seymour get pressure on our goal. Karsen Worthington, defender, added the 4th goal of the game with 1:30 to play in the first half. She made a run up from center defense and was able to chip the Seymour keeper from 30 yards out. The 2nd half started out with a different story. Seymour became energized and started putting our team on their heels for the first 10 minutes. They were able to use their speed to get around our defense and put a goal into the back of the net. After this goal, Batesville settled back in and ended the rest of Seymour’s counterattacks. Rupp added her second goal of the match on an assist from Phillips with 13:00 to play to make the final score 5-1.

“Rupp’s goal was one of the best of the early season as she timed her run and finish perfectly.”   Batesville Coach Kyle Laker.

Batesville participates in the Batesville Invitational this weekend and they play their first game against Rising Sun at 10:00.
