Lady Bulldogs Soccer Teams Winners Against Lady Knights

SoccerThe Batesville Lady Bulldogs improved to 4-0 with a conference win over the South Dearborn Lady Knights. Batesville is now 3-0 in the conference.

The first half was a played primarily on the Batesville half but the Lady Bulldogs were unable to find the back of the net. Batesville outshot South Dearborn 13-1 for the half.

The second half was a much better offensive attack for the Lady Bulldogs. The first goal came in the first 10 minutes of the half after senior midfielder Kira Hertel was able to beat an outside defender and played a great ball in front of the South Dearborn goal keeper. Freshman Marigrace Anderson was the first to get a foot on the ball but the keeper made a nice save and freshman Georgia Gratz was there for the put back. Much of the 2nd half was played with the score 1-0. Batesville still had the majority of the pressure on the Lady Knight defense, but South Dearborn began mounting more counterattacks as the game progressed.

The last 10 minutes on the game was extremely exciting. With 7:22 to play, sophomore Gabi Garcia played a nice ball over top the defense and sophomore Taylor Rowlett was able to break through for the score. Rowlett notched her 6th goal of the season.
South Dearborn then went on the offensive with 5 minutes to play and earned a corner. After a save from sophomore goalkeeper, Molly Wintz, a South Dearborn player was able to volley the rebound into the top net to make the score 2-1.

Just 1 minute later, Batesville was able to control the tempo of the game again and found the back of the net. It was Hertel again beating the outside defender and finding Gratz in the middle of the 6 yard box who gathered the pass and finished the shot.
This marked Gratz’s 2nd goal of the game and her 8th on the season. Hertel now has 7 assists on the season.

The 4th and final goal for the Lady Bulldogs came with 2:03 left to play. A cross from the outside was sent into the box and struck a South Dearborn players arm awarding Batesville with a penalty kick. Senior, Mary Elizabeth Elkins stepped up and hit a perfectly placed shot into the side net for the goal.

JV Batesville 2 – South Dearborn 1

The Batesville Lady JV Bulldogs fought hard all game to defeat the South Dearborn Lady Knights 2-1. Hailey Mohr and Avery Roell scored with assists from Ashlan Czerniak and Kelsey Huffner. Ella Gutzwiller, Jessica Westerfeld, Avery Roell, and Baylee Rohlfing stayed strong defensively the entire game.

The Lady Dogs will be in action again on Thursday against the Seymour Owls.
