Lady Bulldogs Soccer Teams Get ‘W’s’

SoccerThe Batesville Lady Bulldogs opened up their 2015 soccer season with a convincing 8-1 win over the Union County Lady Patriots.

Batesville outshot Union County 57-2. Freshman Georgia Gratz opened the scoring in the 5th minute with a nice give and go combination with Sophomore Taylor Rowlett. Senior Kira Hertel took a shot from outside the 18 hitting the crossbar, Senior Mary Elizabeth Elkins collected the rebound and ripped a left footed shot into the side net. The 3rd goal came on a corner kick with the Werner sisters combining on the goal. Senior Carissa Werner hit the corner to the back post and Freshman Caitlynn Werner connected for the 1-time finish. Hertel and Gratz combined 2 more times in the first half to complete the hat trick for Gratz. The Lady Patriots were able to go on a counter attack late in the first half to net their lone goal for the game.

The 2nd half was much like the first half for the Lady Bulldogs. Hertel collected her 3rd assist on the night after another shot hit the cross bar and Sophomore Taylor Rowlett collected the rebound and slid the ball past the Lady Patriot GK. Hertel added the 7th goal of the game as Sophomore Gabi Garcia laid off a nice ball to Hertel who hit a perfectly placed shot into the side net. The 8th and final goal came on an unassisted goal by Junior Sylvia Phillips. Phillips made a great cut along the side of the 18, and placed a left footed shot in the lower corner of the near post.

“I was very pleased with our team effort tonight. We played a great possession game and made a lot of nice runs without the ball. It was great to see the combination plays and the offensive build up starting from our back 4. It was our first game of the season, so I look forward to the continued success and watching this team grow and learn as a unit.” Bulldogs Coach Kyle Laker.
