Varsity Results – 9-0 against Union County

The Batesville Lady Bulldogs opened out their 2014 campaign with a 9-0 victory at home against the Union County Patriots. The Lady Patriots did a good job holding Batesville scoreless for much of the first half despite the ball being on their half from much of the half. Kira Hertel was the first to break through the Patriot defense to score her first career goal with 17 minutes to go in the first half. Kira stepped in front of a pass from the Patriot defense and slipped it past the keeper to put Batesville up 1-0. “It was great to see the hustle that Kira put in to getting her first career goal.” After the first goal, the goals continued to go in for the Lady Bulldogs for the rest of the half. 5 minutes later, Hertel had another shot that bounced off the far post and was rolling along the goal line until Senior Emily Rose poked it into the back of the net for the 2nd goal of the match. Audrey hall continued the scoring with 2 goals of her own coming with 8 minutes and 3 minutes to go in the half. Mary Elizabeth Elkins laid off a beautiful pass to Audrey who struck it one time into the far corner of the net. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs was Morgan Puente coming off an assist from Hall.

The second half was the same story. Emily Rose started off the scoring with her 2nd goal of the game coming off a free kick near the side of the 18-yard box. She was able to place it perfectly into the side net just over the extended arms of the GK. The next three goals came unassisted with outstanding 1 V 1 individual efforts. Elkins was able to dribble her way through the Patriot back 4 and score 2 goals. The last goal of the game came from Freshman Taylor Rowlett as she scored her first high school goal.

“We look forward to a very successful season and tonight was a good way to kick it off. We are a very deep team this year and are going to be sending fresh bodies all game long at our opponents. Tonight was a perfect example of that. The level of play did not drop even when I was making 8 subs at a time. Our defense is beginning to gel as we are starting with 3 seniors and a freshman in the back 4. We are back in action on Thursday as we travel to Rushville to start our conference season.”   Bulldogs Coach Kyle Laker.
