Katherine Dorothy Fischmer

 

Kkatherine-fischmer-edgesatherine Dorothy Fischmer, age 91 of Batesville, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at St. Andrews Health Campus.

The daughter of Robert A. and Hilda Augusta (Kops) Shultz was born on June 16, 1925.  Katherine married Oscar Fischmer on April 20, 1946 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Crossroads.  Together they raised 5 children and ran the local Fischmer’s Floral Shoppe in Batesville.  Oscar passed away on April 16, 2010.

The homemaker volunteered for many of her children’s activities throughout the years.  She was a Den mother for Cub Scouts, on the PTA for the Westwood Elementary School and a playground attendant. She served as a Girl Scout Leader and Rainbow Girls Mother Advisor as well.  Katherine was a former member of the Phi Beta Psi Sorority.  Many people remember her for her singing, as she was in the St. Marks Choir for 50 years and sang as a soloist for many funerals and weddings throughout the years.  The St. Mark Lutheran Church member was also a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Stars, Chapter 348.  Katherine loved the Cincinnati Reds and was a huge fan.  Late in life Katherine moved to St. Andrews Health Center where she made many new friends and developed a good rapport with the staff.

She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Diana (Bill) Baum, her four sons, David (Wauneta) Fischmer, Dan (Nancy) Fischmer, Devin Fischmer and Dale (Julie) Fischmer; along with 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Caroline Johnson.

Visitation will be Friday, September 16, 2016 from 4-8pm at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville.  Eastern Star services will be held Friday evening.  Funeral Services will be 2:00pm on Saturday, Sept 17th at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Batesville.  Rev. Jill Kepler-Campbell officiating with burial to follow in the St. Mark Lutheran Church Cemetery, Batesville, IN.
