John E. Chase, 73,  of Aurora, IN, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014 in Milan, IN.

He was born Monday, December 9, 1940 in Ohio County, Indiana, Son of the late Chester Chase and the late Annie Voris Chase.

John served his Country as a member of the United States Army.  He worked as a Paint Supervisor for Aurora Casket Company, retiring after over 35 years of service.

He was a member of  St. Leon American Legion, where he served on the Color Guard Unit.  John enjoyed helping people.  He repaired many mowers for friends and neighbors in the area. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He loved to spend time with his family and friends and will be missed by all.

Surviving are significant other, Martha Taylor of Aurora, IN;  sons, Steven (Robin) Chase of Aurora, IN, Shawn (Susan) Chase of Indianapolis, IN;   step-children, Chris Gilmour of Dillsboro, IN, Jenny (Danny) Brooks of Lawrenceburg, IN, George (Nellie) Taylor of Phoenix, Az., Danny  Taylor of Canaan, IN; Grandchild, Casey Gilmour; siblings, Wesley Chase, FL, Margaret Ann Casey of Bear Branch, IN, Lula  Cutter of Bear Branch, IN and Ernest W. Chase also of Bear Branch, IN

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sharon Ann Chase, brothers, Russell, Albert, & Everett Chase.

Friends will be received 5:00 – 8:00 PM, Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, Aurora, Indiana.

Services will be held at the Funeral Home, Monday,  at 11:00 am with Rev. Barry Riehle officiating.

Interment will follow in the River View Cemetery,  Aurora, IN  47001.  Military graveside services will be conducted by members of local Veterans Service Organizations.

Contributions may be made to the Manchester Rescue Unit, Margaret Mary Hospice or St Leon American Legion.  Please call the funeral home office at (812) 926-1450 and we will notify the family of your donation with a card.

Food & drinks, live music, vendors, and door prizes will be featured and available. Free will offering will be accepted for registration the day of the event. This is a casual reunion for anyone who ever attended Metamora Grade School, and an excellent opportunity to reminisce about the good ‘ole days at Metamora School. Take yourself back in time as you visit with some of your former schoolmates. The Metamora School days are remembered by many from this era as days of hardships, yet they also remain as some of their fondest memories of youth. The school has been gone about 36 years now, since about 1979. Please feel welcome to bring your family, old photographs or class pictures, or any old school mementos. All ages are welcome. Attendance in past years has ranged from 25 – 100. This event is very informal and will begin with a pitch-in lunch at noon. Dress appropriately for visiting at the outside, open shelter. Restrooms are available a couple hundred yards away at the State Building. Please bring a covered dish and your own beverage. Let’s keep our memories of the old school alive as long as we’re alive.
