Jean Ison

Jean Ison, age 85, one month and 12 days, passed away in the loving arms of her husband, December 6, 2013 at their residence.  Born October 24, 1928 on Kingscreek in Letcher County, Kentucky to George H. and Polly Mitchell Ison.

Married Billy G. Ison May 22, 1948 in Whitesburg, Kentucky and he survives.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister – in – law and aunt.  She had 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.   She was a member of the Little Memory Church of the Old Regular Baptist where she served for 43 years.  She enjoyed going to church, reading the Bible, taking walks and spending time with family and friends.  Her favorite quote was, “Thank U. Lord”.  She will be missed by her husband, Bill of 65 years, 3 sons, Steve (Haroline) Ison of Brookville, IN, Lambert (Janet) Ison of West Harrison, IN, Robert Ison of Scipio, IN,  two daughters, Beverly Ison of Grapevine, TX and Marilyn Ramey of West Alexandria, OH, 2 brothers, Doug Ison of Columbus, IN and Michael Ison of Kingscreek, KY and one sister, Polly Maucher of New Trenton, IN.

She was proceeded in death by an infant daughter, Sarah Louise  Ison and an infant great grandson, Trevor Ison.  Besides her parents;  sister Edna Sturgill, 4 brothers, George Jr. (Bruggie), Richard, John and Bob Ison.

Visitation for friends and family is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Cook Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville.  Funeral services, at the funeral home, begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2013 with Brother Robert Haney, Brother Charles Combs and Brother Billy Halcomb officiating.  Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.


Memorial donations may be directed to Drewersburg EMS 1 and the Mt. Carmel Cemetery Association.  Personal condolences may be sent to the family at

The Hoxworth Donor Bus will be parked on Margaret Mary’s lot, located at 321 Mitchell Road in Batesville. To schedule your appointment, please visit or call the Laboratory at 812-933-5274. Hoxworth recognizes the blood donors’ time is valuable. Priority will be given to donors who have scheduled an appointment. Walk-in donors are welcome and will be seen as soon as possible.
