James Donald Thompson

Mr. James Donald Thompson, age 76, of East Enterprise, Indiana, entered this life on January 28, 1937, in New York City, New York, the loving son of the late, James M. & Florence (Grieser) Thompson. He was raised in New York City, New York where he attended the Catholic High School. He was inducted into the United States Marine Corps in 1954, serving during the Korean War & was honorably discharged in 1956. He was united in marriage on December 9, 1961, in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, to the late, Diana June Karrer & to this union arrived three daughters to bless their home. James & Diana shared 48 years of marriage together until her death on December 18, 2009. James was employed as an Office Manager for the Office Park  in Cincinnati, Ohio for several years. He was a former steelworker for the Steel Mills in Lyndhurst, New Jersey. He was employed as a Maintenance Supervisor for the World Trade Center in New York. James was a member of the Steelworkers Union in New York, The Knights of Columbus in Lyndhurst, New Jersey & was a member of the Our Most Sorrowful Mother of God Catholic Church in Vevay, Indiana. He enjoyed television, reading, shopping, & collecting guns. James died at 12:30 am, Saturday, January 11, 2014, at his daughters residence in Aurora, Indiana.

James will be missed by: his daughters: Kim DeDreu and her husband Kenneth of Aurora, IN; Lisa DeDreu and her husband Rich of Geneva, FL; Jamie Chase and her husband Jason of Rising Sun, IN; his grandchildren: Shannon, Dawn, Sara, Sammi, Blaze, Alix & Brett; his great grandchildren: Kamar, Maddox, Xander, Collin, Trenton, Camryn & Austin; his brother: Ed Thompson of Vevay, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents: James M. & Florence (Grieser) Thompson; his wife: Diana June (Karrer) Thompson: his grandsons: Jason Tyler Chase, died 05-27-1993, Dylan James Chase, died 07-11-1992, Shaun Michael DeDreu died 12-30-1980; his sister: Eileen Garland; his brother: Robert Thompson.

Memorial services will be conducted Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at 1:00 pm, by Deacon Mike Gardner, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.  Inurnment will follow in the New Liberty Cemetery, East Enterprise, Indiana.

Friends may call 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm, Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Full Military Rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 & the Vevay VFW Post # 5396 on Wednesday at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home

 Memorial contributions may be made to The Most Sorrowful Mother of Catholic Church. Cards are available at the funeral home.

The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 3183 is sponsoring an art contest for students in grades 9-12. The contest is a great way to earn money for college. The art must be on paper or canvas and have a patriotic theme. Digital Art is not accepted. The art must be original. Judging is based on originality, presentation, and patriotism expressed. There are monetary awards given locally and at the state level. The national winners will receive scholarships. Home schooled students are eligible, foreign exchange are not. Your entry must be signed by a teacher. You can obtain an entry form by calling Kay Pulskamp, chairperson at 934-3442. Please submit your art by March 31, 2015. The first place winner will be sent to the State Scholarships Chairman for judging. Your art will be returned to you after judging is complete.
