Investigators Find Ten Pounds Of Pot, Make Three Arrests

Three men are facing charges after police found ten pounds of marijuana at a residence in Laurel.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department launched an investigation following an alleged sexual misconduct complaint involving a juvenile last Tuesday. Through the investigation, police learned that possible drug activity was occurring at the home of Garrett Simmons, 34, of Sanes Creek Road in Laurel.

Franklin County Drug Task Force Officers executed a search warrant at the residence on Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Police found approximately ten pounds of marijuana as well as growing supplies. Authorities say several controlled substances were also located, but are pending identification.

Simmons was arrested and charged with maintaining a common nuisance, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of paraphernalia. He could potentially face a seven year sentence if convicted.

Authorities also arrested Alvin Eden, 52, of Rushville, and David Thompson, 49, of Laurel.

Eden was charged with cultivating marijuana, dealing marijuana, and possession of a controlled substance. If convicted, Eden could receive a nine year sentence in the Department of Corrections.

Thompson was charged with visiting a common nuisance, a class B misdemeanor.

Authorities say they are still investigating the alleged sexual misconduct complaint.
