Hundreds of marriage licenses were issued for same-sex couples following the ruling made June 25. An appeals court halted the ruling three days later as the Indiana Attorney General’s Office issued an appeal.
Gov. Mike Pence’s office has issued a memo to state agencies to go on as if the marriage licenses were not issued during the three days following the federal courts decision.
The memo noted that Indiana will recognize the out-of-state marriage between Amy Sandler and Nikole Quasney of Munster, which complies with an order from the Court of Appeals.
The couple received the exception due to a terminal illness.
