INDIANAPOLIS – Loretta Rush was chosen as Indiana’s first female Chief Justice Wednesday. The Judicial Nominating Commission selected her to replace Chief Justice Brent Dickson when who is stepping down.

Rush has served on the Indiana Supreme Court since 2012 and also on the Tippecanoe Superior Court for 14 years.

Governor Mike Pence applauded the decision, saying, “With this selection, the Judicial Nominating Commission has made history and ensured that Indiana’s Supreme Court will continue to have outstanding leadership in the years ahead.

“With her extensive legal experience, proven character and commitment to public service, I am confident that Chief Justice Rush will serve our judiciary and our state with distinction.”
