IDEM Holding Two Water Quality Meetings Tuesday

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) is hosting two public meetings on Tuesday, as it begins developing a Total Maximum Daily Load (TDML) for the Southern Whitewater Watershed in Franklin and Ripley counties.

The first meeting is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Franklin County Government Center, Commissioners Room, 1010 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.

The second meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the Batesville Middle School Commons, 201 North Mulberry Street, Batesville.

Total Maximum Daily Load is the term for a calculation to determine the maximum amount of pollutants a stream can receive while not violating state water quality standards. Where streams violate standards, IDEM develops TDML reports that include calculations and describe sources of pollutants within the watershed, methods to analyze data, and reductions and improvements to water quality.

Citizens who attend either meeting will learn about water quality monitoring, the steps in the TDML process, and how the community can be involved.
