House releases standing committee assignments

INDIANAPOLIS – House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced standing committee assignments for the 2015 General Assembly. Standing committee assignments are made biennially after each election.

Each committee is led by a chairman and vice-chairman, which were named last month.

Committees with a specific expertise receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is heard on the House floor.

State Rep. Jud McMillin (R-Brookville) will serve as House Majority Floor Leader and vice-chairman of the Rules and Legislative Procedures Committee.

On Wednesday, he was tabbed to serve on the Courts and Criminal Code Committee, the Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee and the Judiciary Committee.

Rep. Randy Frye (R-Greensburg) will lead the Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee as chairman.

Frye will also serve on the Roads and Transportation Committee and the Utilities and Energy Committee.

Rep. Cindy Ziemke (R-Batesville) was appointed last month to the Family, Children and Human Affairs Committee as vice-chairman.

Ziemke will also serve on the Courts and Criminal Code Committee, Family, Children and Human Affairs Committee, and the Select Committee on Government Reduction.

The 2015 legislative session begins on Tuesday, January 6.
