Hazel Mae Gilland age 89 of St. Petersburg, FL formerly of Osgood, IN passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at her home in St. Petersburg, FL   She was born September 28, 1924 in Lockland, Ohio. Her parents were Edward & Ethel Frances Jones Guth.  Hazel married George Charles Gilland  January 25, 1944 & he preceded her in death June 6, 1996. She had been a member of St. John’s Catholic Church of Osgood. 
In 1958, Hazel & her husband George started, owned & operated Green Valley Nursery near Osgood until the late 1970’s. Along with this, she had also worked for the Jefferson County Proving Grounds. Hazel was instrumental in helping start the Southeastern IN  Head Start Program in Ripley,Dearborn, Franklin & Switzerland Counties from 1965 to 1968.  Another project that she fought for & won, was  the Water Shed Program which involved Ripley, Jennings & part of Decatur County.
She also was a past employee of Bohner & Wagner Tax Service located in Osgood .  Her last job was in St. Petersburg, FL where she worked as head bank teller for Bank Of America for 11 years.

Two grandchildren & two great grandchildren preceded her in death along with one sister, Alice Schiffler.
