ScheneG2Gregory T. Schene, age 65 of Batesville died Tuesday, May 27, 2014. Born April 9, 1949 in Batesville, he is the son of Mildred (Nee: Goldsmith) and Alvin Schene. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War from 1967 until 1971. After the service, he went to work for the Bearing Corporation Of America plant in Greensburg as a machinist.

Greg enjoyed activities that typically took him outside. Among his favorites were golfing, target shooting with guns, squirrel hunting and fishing. His family indicated he was definitely a Colts fan and the T.V. show M.A.S.H. Greg also loved to take rides in the country and occasionally would go camping.

He is survived by his daughter Amy Schene of Greensburg; son Joey Schene of Greensburg; sisters Karen Cox of New Palestine, Indiana, Barbara Hendrix of Batesville, Bernadette Nunlist of Oldenburg; brothers Alvin of Batesville, Michael of Batesville, Anthony of Indianapolis, Christopher of Indianapolis and granddaughter Bailey Schene of Greensburg. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by brothers Frederick and Albert.

Visitation is Wednesday, June 4th, from 10 a.m. until Noon at the Weigel Funeral Home. A graveside service follows at St. Louis Cemetery at Noon. Military rites will be conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. Memorials may be made to the family.

The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 3183 is sponsoring an art contest for students in grades 9-12. The contest is a great way to earn money for college. The art must be on paper or canvas and have a patriotic theme. Digital Art is not accepted. The art must be original. Judging is based on originality, presentation, and patriotism expressed. There are monetary awards given locally and at the state level. The national winners will receive scholarships. Home schooled students are eligible, foreign exchange are not. Your entry must be signed by a teacher. You can obtain an entry form by calling Kay Pulskamp, chairperson at 934-3442. Please submit your art by March 31, 2015. The first place winner will be sent to the State Scholarships Chairman for judging. Your art will be returned to you after judging is complete.
