Former PTO president accused of stealing funds

GREENSBURG, Ind. – The former PTO president for South Decatur Elementary School has been arrested and charged with three counts of felony theft.

Christy R. Peters, 39, of Greensburg, was dismissed from the organization after thousands of dollars went missing.

Investigators say she stole nearly $5,700 from the PTO fund and used $1,393 for personal purchases at various businesses, the Greensburg Daily News reports.

The alleged thefts occurred between July and October of this year.

According to court documents, Peters is accused of pocketing nearly $3,000 from a September fundraiser that she was responsible for depositing.

Peters could face up to seven-and-a-half years in prison if convicted.
