Before she became known as an author, Rachel Macy Stafford was a special education teacher at Batesville Community Schools.

Stafford, now a resident of Alabama and mother of two daughters, penned the book “Hands Free Mama.”

It is currently No. 8 on the Advice, How-To & Miscellaneous genre of the New York Times Best Sellers.

The book offers strategies for eliminating distractions and spending time with friends and loved ones.

The author wrote on her blog, “I want to make memories, not to-do lists. I want to feel the squeeze of my child’s arms, not the pressure of over commitment.”

Her teaching career at Batesville has not gone forgotten.

“Before I was a mom, I was a teacher to special education students. I can still remember all their names and wish I could see how each one turned out. I love sharing information in creative and inspiring ways to those who want to receive it,” Stafford wrote.

Stafford will be back in the Hoosier State tonight for a book signing at the Barnes & Nobel at 5675 River Crossing Boulevard in Indianapolis at 7 p.m.
