Five teaching positions have been cut at Greensburg schools in an effort to save money.

The Greensburg Community School Board agreed to cut five teaching positions as the corporation searches for ways to bring costs in line with revenues.

The five contracts consist of a health teacher and two English teachers at the junior high school, a science teacher at the high school and a special education teacher at the elementary school, according to the Greensburg Daily News.

The job cuts will save the school corporation about $320,000 per year. School officials are looking to cut expenditures by an additional $180,000.

Superintendent Tom Hunter told the Greensburg Daily News that administrators are working to lessen the impact of a smaller teaching staff on students.
