Farmers Making Planting Progress This Week

Good weather is allowing local farmers to get more crops in the ground this week. Data released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture shows 20 percent of Indiana’s corn has been planted.

The percentage has been growing each day this week, but rain in the forecast Thursday through Saturday could sideline planting efforts.

According to Hoosier Ag Today, some Southern Indiana farmers say that they have completed corn planting, while farmers in other regions of the state are just beginning.

Statewide progress remains ahead of schedule compared to last year but still behind the five year average of 34 percent.

Planting progress in the Hoosier State is ahead of Ohio, at nine percent. The U.S. Department of Ag reports planting progress in Kentucky and Illinois is approximately 40 percent.
