February 4, 2017

The Food and Growers Association is hosting their annual winter conference on Saturday, February 4 at Batesville Middle School.

This year’s theme is: “Local Food: A ‘Growing’ Revolution”.

The event will feature speakers and educational presentations on two “tracks”, including lectures relevant to farmers/producers, and another aimed at home gardeners and consumers.

Topics will include:

  • small farm profitability
  • closed-loop farming
  • season extension using high and low tunnels
  • Q&A with experienced farmers
  • fermentation
  • canning
  • cheese-making
  • medicinal mushrooms
  • wild edible foraging

Lunch will be provided as a “Taste of Southeast Indiana” from area restaurants, using local ingredients.

New this year, a children’s program for ages 3-10 will be available to the children of conference attendees.

Local food producers and other organizations will have booths in the vendor’s area/winter market, which will be free and open to the public from 9-11am.

Check our website, foodandgrowers.org, for more information on speakers and schedule.
