Eugene J. (Gene) Sacksteder, age 75, of West Harrison, Indiana, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at the Brookville Healthcare Center in Brookville.
Born March 30, 1939 in Franklin County, Indiana he was the son of the late Edwin & Alice (Meier) Sacksteder. He was a Veteran of the United States Army from 1959-1961.
On September 1, 1962 he was united in marriage to the former Mary K. Getz, and she survives.
He retired in 1995 from Monsanto Chemical in Addyston, Ohio where he had worked for many years. He was a lifelong member of Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Church; the Cedar Grove Conservation Club; and the National Rifle Association.
In his leisure time Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and horses, however his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Besides Mary, his wife of over 51 years, survivors include two daughters, Cindy (Jeff) Hofer and Nikki Sacksteder of Brookville; two sons, Randy Sacksteder and Denny (Ali) Sacksteder of Brookville; 16 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Mike Sacksteder of Cedar Grove, Indiana, Don (Joyce) Sacksteder of Cedar Grove, Indiana and Jim (Rena) Sacksteder of Brookville, Indiana.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Sacksteder.
Family & friends may visit from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon on Monday, July 14, 2014 at Holy Guardian Angels Chapel, 405 U.S. HWY 52, Cedar Grove, Indiana 47016.
Rev. Sean Danda will officiate the Funeral Mass on Monday, July 14, 2014, 12:00 Noon, at Holy Guardian Angels Chapel in Cedar Grove. Burial with full military graveside honors by the Bernard Hurst Post #77 of the American Legion will follow in Holy Guardian Angels Cemetery in Cedar Grove.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Drewersburg or Cedar Grove Volunteer Fire Departments or the Holy Guardian Angels Cemetery Fund. Macy’s will partner with Dearborn Highlands Arts Council to invite customers to participate in Macy’s 10th annual national “Shop for a Cause” charity shopping event on Saturday, August 29. Customers can purchase shopping passes for $5 each from the council now. Each pass saves 25% all day on regular, sale, and clearance items and 10% on electronics, watches, furniture, and more. Macy’s has provided the council with shopping passes to sell for $5 each and the council will keep 100% of every shopping pass it sells. Some exclusions apply on discounts obtained with the passes. The Delaware United Methodist Church will be hosting their 77th Annual Homecoming on Sunday, August 30 with church services at 8:30 am and Sunday School at 9:30 am. The program will be held at the Township Building. Pitch-in dinner and social time will be from 12:00 – 1:30 pm. Program will begin at 1:30 pm. Tommy Beatley, Pastor, will reside.
