Edward F. McDaneld Jr.

Edward F. McDaneld Jr., age 82 of San Francisco, California, died Saturday, May 6, 2017.  Born November 11, 1934 in Kansas City, Missouri, he is the son of Amy and Edward McDaneld Sr.  He married Donna Ertel (daughter of Rita and Harry Ertel of St. Mary’s, Indiana) December 30, 1971 in Larkspur, California.

He graduated from the University of Missouri in 1956 and entered Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, graduating in 1957 as a First Lieutenant.  He was assigned to the USS Vance Escort Destroyer in Seattle as part of the Pacific Fleet.  In 1960 the destroyer was transferred to Pearl Harbor.  From there he was assigned to Yokosuka, Japan for two years with the Destroyer Squadron 3 and would be discharged in June of 1962.

Following the service, he would move to San Francisco, working as a sales representative for Xerox and IBM before retiring.  Two of his favorite interests were outdoor activities.  He enjoyed golfing and hiking, especially long hikes on Marin County California’s Mt. Tamalpais trails as well as the Yosemite and Yellowstone National Parks.

A visitation and service were held in California last week.  Visitation in Batesville will be held from 10 – 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 17th, at the Weigel Funeral Home.  A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s of the Rock Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271.
