Dixon Takes His 3rd Indy 500 Pole for the 101st Running

P1 Qualifier Scott Dixon, with daughters Poppy and Tilly.

Speedway, Ind. — Scott Dixon won the Indy 500 in 2008 after staring in the Pole Position, and now he is set to try and do that again for the 101st running of The Indianapolis 500. Alongside Dixon on the front row are Ed Carpenter and 2016 Indy 500 Winner, Alexander Rossi.

Only three Chevys made it to The Fast Nine after yesterday’s initial qualifying runs. Two by teammates Ed Carpenter and JR Hildebrand, the other by Penske Driver, Will Power. Power was, surprisingly, the only Penske car to make it into The Fast Nine.

Sebastien Bourdais was not able to qualify today. While making his initial qualifying run Saturday, he suffered an horrific crash in Turn 2. The crash resulted in Bourdais needing surgery to fix a broken pelvis and hip. He’ll need more surgery, but is expected to make a full recovery. Team owner, Dale Coyne, is hopeful Bourdais will be back in a car next season.

Dale Coyne Racing announced on Sunday that Australian James Davison will be replacing the injured Sebastien Bourdais aboard the #18 GEICO Honda for the 101st Indianapolis 500.

Davison is familiar with the team, having last raced for DCR at the 2015 Indianapolis 500. He made two other starts with the Plainfield-based team in 2013. The Australian has a best result of 16th at the Indianapolis 500, registered in 2014.

The 101st Indianapolis 500 can be heard live on 103.9 FM, WRBI, next Sunday, May 28th.
