Distillery Items Siezed By Excise In Batesville

The Indiana State Excise Police seized a still and other items used to distill liquor from a home in Batesville on Monday.

Officers received a tip that a home in the 100 block of Hillenbrand Avenue was illegally making liquor. Excise officers served a search warrant to look for items related to the unlawful manufacturing of alcohol.

Police say they found several items including a whiskey barrel that contains whiskey. Other items seized included self-learning manuals and books on how to make whiskey.

Possession of a still or distilling apparatus is a Class C Misdemeanor. Other charges could follow.

No word on who police say is responsible.

Excise officers were assisted by the Batesville Police Department and Ripley County Prosecutor Ric Hertel.
