With the recent death of Dave Laudick, Batesville lost a great ambassador for not only the high school sports programs, but for the town as well.  Dave played both basketball and baseball at BHS.  I had the pleasure of sharing playing time in baseball with Dave.  After high school Dave continued to be a big part of the town’s sports programs.  He not only played baseball and softball for many years in the local leagues but also coached these sports as well.  The Knights of Columbus softball team was a big part of Dave’s adult life.

Dave also spent a lot of time coaching basketball in the St. Louis school system.  He was well respected and his teams were highly competitive.  Had it not been for Dave’s regular job, I am sure he would have been a good candidate for a lay coach for the high school program.

In his later years, Dave turned his sports energy toward golf and was enjoying his retirement by playing not only at the local courses but taking trips with his buddies to warm-climate courses.  He will be missed.

The Batesville High School Interact Club will be having a spring cleaning coat drive from January 15 – February 15. Drop-off locations include Goody’s, Batesville Memorial Public Library, and the Guidance Office at the Batesville High School.

The Sunman Firemen’s Buffet Style Dinner will be held on Friday, February 12 from 4:30 – 7:30 pm at the Sunman American Legion. Breaded fish tail or baked cod will be served. Free will donation. Carry-outs available.

The Millhousen Fire Department will be having an all-you-can-eat fish fry on January 29, February 12 & 26, and March 11 from 5 – 8 pm. Menu includes hand-breaded fish & tenderloins, French fries, baked beans, applesauce, hot dogs, drinks, and dessert. Carry-outs available.
