Court Keeps Milan Murder Trial In Ripley County

A judge denied a defense motion to move a murder trial outside of Ripley County.

The defense team of 22-year-old Allison Moore, of Colerain Township, Ohio, asked the court last week for a change of venue, however it was denied according to Ripley County Prosecutor Ric Hertel.

“This matter was litigated and subsequently briefed by both parties,” said Hertel. “Following that the court issued its ruling.

Moore is one of three people accused of murdering 68-year-old Nancy Hershman, of Milan on December 30, 2012.

Defense attorneys also filed a motion for Test Jury which was also denied on the same day. Trial is set to begin on March 31, 2014.

While three people are awaiting trial, a local community remembers the life of Hershman. A Light the Night Memorial Vigil is scheduled for Saturday Jan. 4. It will be held at Highway 101 & 350 at 6pm. A memorial service will also be held at New Craven Cemetery at 7pm.

Luminaries will be sold for $1 each or $5 for six. Proceeds will benefit the Nancy Hershman Scholarship fund.
