Coolie Calihan Jr., age 78, of Metamora, Indiana died Monday, October 3, 2016 at his residence in Metamora.

Born December 29, 1937 in Letcher County, Kentucky he was the son of the late Coolie Calihan Sr. & Versie (Lewis) Calihan. He was a veteran of the United States Army. On April 17, 1959 he and the former Patricia D. Shelton were united in marriage, and she preceded him in death on October 9, 2012.

He was retired from Dresser Industries in Connersville, Indiana. He also owned & operated school buses for the Franklin County Community School Corporation for over 15 years.

Coolie was a member of the Scipio United Baptist Church as well as the Connersville Bluegrass Association. In his leisure time he enjoyed singing & playing bluegrass and gospel music, but most of all he loved his family and cherished time spent together with them. His life was an inspiration to many, as he touched the hearts of all who knew him.

Survivors include seven daughters, Tammie (Howard) May, Rhonda (Rick) Abshear, Donna Hildebrand, Kathy Cone, Angie (Kevin) Westerfeld, Jenny (Ronnie) Jolliff, Beth (Link) Laird, all of Franklin County, Indiana; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Faye Hofer of Brookville, Indiana, Sadie Wells of Lawrenceburg, Indiana and Brenda Ross of Brookville, Indiana; two brothers, Joe Calihan of Blooming Grove, Indiana and Odell Calihan of Everton, Indiana.

In addition to his parents and wife, Patricia, he was greeted in heaven by three sisters, Delores Fields, Pat Mays, and Freida Smith; a brother, Stanley Calihan; and a son-in-law, Kenny Hildebrand.

Family & friends may visit from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.

Rev. Rob Edwards will officiate the Funeral Services on Thursday, October 6, 2016, 12:00 Noon, at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home. Burial will then follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville, Indiana.
