Voting ends this weekend for an online fundraiser for schools to win a grant through State Farm Insurance.

Jac-Cen-Del High School has joined the insurance company’s national “Celebrate My Drive” contest, as part of Red Ribbon Week, which ends Oct. 26.

High Schools across America are competing to win one of 10 $100,000 grants or one of 90 $25,000 grants. Half of these grants will be going to small schools, like Jac-Cen-Del.

To win one of the grants, the school needs community members to log on to Celebrate My Drive Website, and make a commitment to safe driving while selecting Jac-Cen-Del as their school.

The more commitments in the school’s name, the better the chance for them to win a grant or even a concert with Kelly Clarkson.

Automobile crashes are the number one cause for teen fatality in the United States.

The Students Against Destructive Decisions Chapter (SADD) at Jac-Cen-Del is promoting the program throughout the school and the community. They have been encouraging students to vote during their lunch periods since the program started on Oct. 18.

“This is a great program because it teaches students to be safe drivers,” said Jac-Cen-Del student and SADD Officer Michaela Purdy. “Maybe we can decline accidents.”

“It is not just about driving. It is about all the decisions we make,” said student and SADD officer Laura Detmer.

Voting ends Saturday at midnight. As of Friday morning, Jac-Cen-Del is ranked 246th in the nation. Community members can change that by logging on to Celebrate My Drive.
