GREENSBURG, Ind. – A state agency is siding with a Honda employee who claims she was discriminated against because of her race.
The African American employee filed a complaint with the Indiana Civil Rights Commission alleging the company provided her less training and job advancement opportunities compared to white colleagues.
The commission ruled that there is sufficient evidence to show illegal discrimination occurred, the Greensburg Daily News reports.
The employee was hired by Honda in 2009 and promoted as a fixed asset accountant in the spring of 2013. She was demoted three months later after Honda said she failed to meet expectations.
The employee said she did meet expectations.
If the two parties do not reach an agreement the case would be heard by an administrative law judge.
Honda released a statement disputing the allegations and “looks forward to presenting its defense through the administrative process.”
